Rachel Barkin
Communications Chair I'm a fifth year graduate student at the University of Maryland, College Park studying Human Development and Quantitative Methodology, while working in the Early Childhood Interaction Lab. My research is focused on how children's early math knowledge relates to their use of hand gestures, as well as how other domain-general factors (such as executive function) may further relate to their use of embodied practices during math. Additionally, I'm interested in how these relations vary based on context, such as in a playful, game-based math environment, or more formal, school-based educational setting. I am excited to serve as Communications Chair to MCLS trainee, given my intense love for both mathematical cognition and twitter. Besides finding fun memes to share, I have the opportunity to work on the email blasts each week for the online MCLS conferences, update the main MCLS website, and create this MCLS Trainee specific website! |
